Men’s Health: Prevention, Risk, and Proactive Strategy

Men’s health outcomes continue to reveal preventable gaps in engagement and early intervention. This multidisciplinary panel — spanning family medicine, cardiology, urology, and executive-level preventive care — will examine how cardiovascular risk, urologic health, and primary care strategy intersect in real-world practice. Focused on strengthening prevention and reframing proactive care, this discussion equips physicians with practical perspective to better guide their patients while also taking a clear-eyed look at their own risk and longevity.

Identify key clinical indicators in men—such as erectile dysfunction, hormonal changes, and mental health symptoms—that may signal underlying cardiometabolic or systemic disease.
Apply evidence-based approaches to the evaluation and management of men’s health concerns, including appropriate screening, risk assessment, and referral across primary care, cardiology, and urology.
Integrate lifestyle, behavioral, and communication strategies into clinical practice to improve patient engagement, address misinformation, and support long-term health outcomes in male patients.

Accreditation Statement: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Colorado Medical Society and El Paso County Medical Society. The Colorado Medical Society is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Event Panelists

Michael Barber, MD, PhD, FACC, FHRS, FAHA is the Medical Director and a founding physician at Strata Integrated Wellness in Colorado Springs. A board-certified cardiologist, internist, and electrophysiologist, Dr. Barber brings more than 40 years of clinical experience, including three decades in invasive cardiology, to his integrative, patient-centered approach to care.

Dr. Barber specializes in cardiovascular disease, integrative cardiology, internal medicine, and men’s health, with a focus on prevention, hormone optimization, and addressing root causes of chronic conditions through lifestyle and personalized care strategies.

At Strata, he leads a multidisciplinary team delivering concierge and executive wellness services designed to improve long-term health outcomes through comprehensive, individualized care.

Kyle Adams, MD is a board-certified family medicine physician with UCHealth Primary Care in Colorado Springs. He provides comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages, with clinical interests in preventive care, nutrition, obesity management, diabetes, and sports medicine procedures.

Dr. Adams earned his Doctor of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine and holds a Master of Public Health from Texas A&M University. He brings more than a decade of clinical experience and is committed to building long-term, trust-based relationships with his patients through attentive, patient-centered care.

His approach emphasizes whole-person health, patient education, and guiding individuals through all aspects of their health and wellness needs.

Dinesh Telang, MD is a board-certified urologist with more than 35 years of clinical experience in the diagnosis and management of urologic conditions. He earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School and has been board certified in urology since 1996.

Dr. Telang’s clinical expertise spans a wide range of urologic conditions, including prostate health, urinary disorders, and urologic procedures. He is known for his comprehensive approach to evaluation and treatment, with a focus on evidence-based care and improving patient outcomes in men’s health.

Margaret MacDonald, MD is a physician with 30 years of experience in family medicine, neuroscience, and clinical research. After personally struggling with fibromyalgia and leaving work due to chronic illness, she found significant recovery through the Guaifenesin Protocol. Trained under Dr. Paul St. Amand, she now dedicates her practice to helping fibromyalgia patients through whole-person, integrative care, including non-drug approaches such as biofeedback. Dr. MacDonald is committed to advancing awareness and research for this often-misunderstood condition and guiding patients back toward wellness.

Providing high-quality care extends beyond diagnosis and treatment. Creating Inclusive Clinical Environments is designed to support physicians in strengthening the culture, awareness, and systems within their practices to better serve LGBTQ+ patients.

This program is not a clinical treatment course. Instead, it offers a thoughtful, evidence-informed discussion about health disparities, professional responsibility, and practical steps that foster trust, safety, and respect in clinical settings.

Participants will:

Recognize why LGBTQ+ individuals experience health disparities and why safer, inclusive spaces matter
Define relational safety and explore strategies that strengthen the patient-provider relationship, including trauma-informed and harm-reduction approaches
Identify ways to promote environmental safety through visual cues, administrative processes, and best practices in SOGI data collection and record keeping
Review key aspects of Colorado law that protect access to LGBTQ+ affirming care

This session is intended to support physicians in cultivating practice environments that reflect professionalism, awareness, and patient-centered care.

Event Panelists

Nico Wilkinson (they/he)

Nico serves as the Outreach Coordinator at Inside Out Youth Services, where they've been a dedicated team member since 2021. Drawing on years of organizing experience, Nico coordinates efforts to mobilize supporters and expand impact through allyship trainings, advocacy initiatives, and strategic community outreach alongside the IOYS Outreach team. Outside of work, he is a poet, printmaker, and teaching artist whose work can be found at www.nicowilkinson.com.

Ollie Glessner (they/them)

Ollie is the Advocacy Director at Inside Out Youth Services, which builds access, equity, and power with LGBTQIA2+ youth. They have the privilege of supporting their amazing team in making safer spaces throughout the Tava-Kaavi (Pikes Peak) region through trainings, strategic communications, local and statewide advocacy, and policy consultation. Ollie’s goal is to ensure every young person in the region knows IOYS is here for them, and every adult knows how to support the LGBTQIA2+ youth in their lives. Ollie is a former journalist and longtime resident of Colorado Springs, with a passion for the queer community. In their free time, Ollie likes to write, play video games, and spend time with their wife and four beautiful cats.

Melissa Chizmar (she/they)

Melissa is the Health Equity Manager at ChangeLine, overseeing LGBTQ+ health equity efforts. They work closely with mental and physical health providers to increase access to affirming care in the Pikes Peak region through trainings, communities of practice, coalition building, and open dialogue. She also manages a Community Advisory Council composed of LGBTQ+ community members with lived experience navigating the healthcare system that steers the work. Melissa has lived in Colorado Springs since 2011 and enjoyed a career in HIV prevention and public health before exploring the capacity building side of LGBTQ+ healthcare. Outside of work, she can be found hiking and climbing in the mountains, listening to live music, trying New York Times five-star recipes, and spending time with their partner and friends.

The space includes a relaxed indoor area, a beer-garden style patio for outdoor mingling, and a welcoming atmosphere that works well for casual networking. The venue is fully ADA-accessible with a front entrance ramp and nearby accessible parking, making it easy for all members to attend and enjoy.

Parking & Arrival

Parking is provided in the shared lot of the shopping plaza where the brewery is located; simply pull into the lot and look for the suite 100 storefront. Entry is via the front ramp to the building. If the lot is full, there is additional street parking nearby. Plan to arrive a few minutes early so you can settle in before we officially start.

Rachel Wilkenson, MD

Integrative Psychiatry

Dr. Rachel Wilkenson, a sixth-generation Colorado native, brings a globally enriched perspective to medicine. She earned her degree with honors from the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, achieving dual credentials in both European and United States medical practice.

With a deep commitment to neurobiological and whole-body health, Dr. Wilkenson blends cutting-edge medical expertise with an integrative approach to patient care. She empowers her patients through education, personalized treatment plans, and thoughtfully curated nutrition and supplement strategies.

Beyond her practice, Dr. Wilkenson finds joy in time spent with family and embraces a lifelong passion for both learning and teaching.

Adam Robinson, DO

Internal Medicine / Pediatric Physician

Dr. Adam Robinson earned his medical degree from the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Michigan State University, where he spent his last year serving as Chief Resident.

Family and a love for the mountains brought him, his wife, their four daughters and two sons to Colorado. He is a compassionate and committed physician who cares deeply for his patients and their families. His practice encompasses patients of all ages from newborns through geriatrics, including the full-breadth of both pediatrics and internal medicine. He is particularly enthusiastic about transitional medicine, which continues the appropriate care needed for young adults as they grow out of pediatrics and into adulthood.

Outside of the office, Dr. Robinson enjoys volunteering at church, running, backpacking, and being with his family.
