Resolution adopted by Colorado Medical Society on September 14, 2003 regarding Developmentally Disabled persons.

Resolved, that the Colorado Medical Society entreat healthcare professionals, parents, and others participating in decision-making to be guided by the following principles:

All people with developmental disabilities, regardless of the degree of their disability, should have access to appropriate and affordable medical and dental care throughout their lives.

An individual's medical condition and welfare must be the basis of any medical decision; and be it further resolved, that the CMS AMA delegation submit a similar resolution to the AMA for consideration.

Comment: Your reference committee encourages the Board of Directors to encourage the Colorado Dental Association to adopt a similar policy.
