EPCMS committees are the heart and soul of this active, dynamic society. There are 320 physicians and community leaders who work together throughout the year on over 12 busy committees.

Delegates & Alternates    Senior Delegate: David W.M. Ross, D.O.
Members are elected to represent EPCMS at Colorado Medical Society House of Delegates meetings. The Annual meeting is generally held in September and the Interim meeting is March or April each year. Delegates and alternates meet for a local pre-caucus meeting before each House meeting. When members feel the society should submit a resolution to the House of Delegates they are encouraged to contact any Delegate.

Committee for Persons with Developmentally Disabilities   

Chair:   Stephen C. Telatnik, M.D.
Provide an on-going sounding board for developmentally disabled persons and their families in the manner of case management.  The committee is composed of persons who are familiar with the needs of developmentally disabled persons and the challenges faced by physicians in working with these individuals.  The committee meets 12:15 p.m.., second Tuesday, every other month.

Emergency Care Committee    Chair:  David W.M. Ross, D.O.
Medical directors of all local civilian and military hospitals, medical advisors of all pre-hospital care services and other appropriate physicians associated with the delivery of emergency care advise the membership on all matters pertaining to emergency medical services and bring the society point-of-view to others involved. The committee meets 12:00 p.m., third Tuesday, every other month.

Extended Care Ethics Committee    Chair: Fred M. Feinsod, M.D.
Physicians, long term care and home health care administrators, attorneys, judges and other community leaders assist physicians, patients and families in resolving issues arising in long term care facilities. The committee also develops guidelines for setting standards of care in the community. They meet at 7:30 a.m., first Friday, every month.

Long Term Care Facilities  Chair: Fred M. Feinsod, M.D.
Medical directors of each local long term care facility meet frequently by e-mail, and in person as needed, to consider problems and solutions which face long term care facilities.

Medical Ethics Committee  Chair: Paul Anderson, M.D.
Physicians, ethicists, attorneys, judges, and other community leaders meet to research and consider medical ethical matters, provide information and education for physicians and the public. They meet at 6:00 p.m., first Thursday, every other month.

Medical Information Technology  Chair: Ripley R. Hollister, M.D.
Provide oversight for all medical society technology issues and keep members advised on technical advances as they apply to medicine. They meet at 7:00 a.m., first Tuesday, every month.

MRC Council    Chair: Brian Crawford, M.D.
This medical society task force meets regularly to: coordinate, organize and utilize physicians effectively in the event of a major community disaster; assist, support and educate physicians who are involved in providing care in a disaster situation; advise our community in its efforts to respond to disaster and assure that individual physicians are integrated in disaster planning on each lever for our community and that El Paso County physicians are : A Community Of Physicians On Alert.

Physician/Nurse Collaborative Committee   Chair: Randall J. Bjork, M.D.
Directors of nursing of all local and military hospitals, representatives of the Colorado Nurses Association, El Paso County School Nurses Association, long term care and home health care agencies, and physicians work together for community benefit and to enhance the professional image of nursing. Each year nurses are selected by their peers to receive the Excellence in Nursing Awards  presented by the medical society. The committee meets at 12:15 p.m., second Wednesday of every other month.

Political Issues Committee   Chair:
To establish ongoing relationships with legislators and local lawmakers and to educate physicians and our community on legislative/community issues of importance to El Paso County Medical Society members.

Professional  Review Committee   Chair: Michelle Hor, M.D.
Physician leaders are elected by their peers for five-year terms. They are a resource to mediate concerns between physicians and their patients and provide a means for physicians to have peer to peer interaction.

School Health Advisory Committee    Chair: Bruce MacHaffie, MD
School nurses from each school district in El Paso and Teller Counties meet with physicians to provide a forum for interaction and communication among groups interested in school health. Meetings are 7:00 a.m., fourth Wednesday of each month.
