EL PASO COUNTY
MEDICAL SOCIETY ALLIANCE The El Paso County Medical Society Alliance was formed in 1923 as a non-profit organization open to all spouses of physicians in El Paso County. The official purpose of the Alliance is to compliment the El Paso County Medical Society in its program for the advancement of medicine and public service. The Alliance strives to address and to fulfill a multitude of needs and interest to a multi-faceted membership. It provides friendships, emotional support and social contacts. It also offers networking opportunities, including educational programs for members, community projects and various special interest groups. Initially, the Alliance coordinated and supported the Polio immunization campaign with the early Salk vaccine. Through the years, the Alliance has been instrumental in the community by supporting and coordinating such endeavors as AIDS education, teenage drug awareness, community health fairs and screening programs, medical exhibits for museums, and various types of projects to help the elderly and the needy. We meet with our local legislators each year and try to remain informed of current legislation affecting medicine. The list of our projects increases each year as new issues emerge which may benefit from the support of our organization. Since 1993, the Alliance has been very involved in bringing to our community some awareness of the ever-present problem of family violence. It has actively supported the Center for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and its Safehouse. In addition, the Alliance has held paper showers for Safehouse occupants; distributed 50,000 pamphlets to physicians’ offices providing vital information for those in need; partnered with a billboard company to display NO VIOLENCE messages; donated $1000 to the Domestic Violence Center; and provided "I Can Choose" coloring books for school and Safehouse children. This year we are especially looking to partner with Alliance members in the legislative arena.
